Accessibility Statement
Last reviewed: 24 March 2026
Ancient Source is committed to making our website and application accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We strive to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA as a minimum standard.
1. Our commitment
We believe that access to ancient wisdom and self-help tools should not depend on a person’s abilities. Accessibility is an ongoing effort and we continuously work to improve the experience for all users. We welcome feedback to help us identify and fix issues.
2. Conformance status
Ancient Source is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. “Partially conformant” means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the standard, as described in the Known Issues section below.
This statement covers the web application at ancientsource.app and the progressive web app (PWA) installed on mobile and desktop devices.
3. Measures we have taken
Ancient Source takes the following measures to ensure accessibility:
Semantic HTML and ARIA
- Semantic HTML5 elements used throughout (nav, main, article, section, header, footer)
- ARIA roles and labels on interactive components (dialogs, navigation, progress bars)
- Logical heading hierarchy (h1 → h2 → h3) on all pages
- Form inputs have visible labels; required fields are indicated
Keyboard navigation
- All interactive elements are reachable and operable by keyboard
- Focus indicators are visible (ring outline) on all focusable elements
- Tab order follows visual reading order
- Modal dialogs trap focus correctly and can be dismissed with the Escape key
- Skip-to-main-content link provided for keyboard users
Colour and contrast
- Text contrast ratios meet WCAG AA requirements (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text)
- Information is not conveyed by colour alone
- High-contrast mode (system preference) is respected via CSS media queries
- Dark mode support via system preference detection
Motion and animation
- All animations respect the
prefers-reduced-motionsystem preference - No content flashes more than 3 times per second
- Animations are decorative and do not convey essential information
Images and media
- Meaningful images have descriptive alt text
- Decorative images have empty alt attributes (alt="")
- Icons used alongside text have aria-hidden to prevent duplication by screen readers
Responsive design
- Content reflows correctly up to 400% zoom without horizontal scrolling
- Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of content or functionality
- The Service is usable on screen sizes from 320px wide
- Touch targets are at least 44×44px on mobile
4. Known limitations and issues
We are aware of the following accessibility limitations and are working to address them:
- Solomon AI chat: AI-generated responses are streamed token-by-token. The live region announcing new content may not provide the best experience on all screen readers. We are evaluating alternatives.
- PDF export: Where the app generates downloadable content, PDFs may not be fully accessible. Tagged PDF support is on our roadmap.
- Complex data tables: Some data tables on mobile may require horizontal scrolling. We are redesigning these for smaller viewports.
5. Tested assistive technologies
We test accessibility with the following combinations:
- VoiceOver (macOS / iOS) + Safari
- NVDA + Chrome (Windows)
- TalkBack (Android) + Chrome
- Keyboard-only navigation (Chrome, Firefox, Safari)
6. Legal and regulatory framework
This statement addresses requirements under:
- UK: Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018; Equality Act 2010
- EU: Web Accessibility Directive (Directive 2016/2102/EU); European Accessibility Act (EN 301 549) — applicable from June 2025
- US: Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act (where applicable)
- Canada: Accessible Canada Act (ACA); AODA (Ontario)
- Australia: Disability Discrimination Act 1992
