Is this a religious app?

No. There's no liturgy, no devotionals, no theology. The texts are treated as primary sources — like reading Marcus Aurelius or Seneca.

Do I need to believe anything?

No. Ancient Source is for people who want the wisdom without the doctrine. Atheists, agnostics, deconstructing believers, curious seekers — the app reads the same way for all of you.

How is this different from a Bible app like YouVersion?

Different frame. We don't highlight promises, we highlight psychological mechanisms. We use the word "poet" where devotional apps use "prophet." Every passage is paired with a CBT / ACT / Stoic parallel and a modern research citation.

What traditions are covered?

Hebrew and Christian texts at launch (Solomon). Islamic texts follow next (Mizan). A cross-tradition synthesis — Stoic, Buddhist, Abrahamic — is threaded throughout (Lantern).

Yes. Journal entries are encrypted at rest with a device-held key. If you request an AI reflection, that active entry is sent for processing. We never use your writing to train AI models. Full export and delete are available from settings at any time.

Terms of Service

Please read these Terms of Service (“Terms”) carefully before using https://ancientsource.app or the Ancient Source mobile application (collectively, the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. About the Service

Ancient Source is a self-help and personal development application that draws on ancient wisdom texts as a source of psychological insight. The Service provides AI-assisted conversations (“Solomon”), journalling tools, curated content, and educational material. Ancient Source is not a religious service, does not promote any belief system, and does not provide medical, psychiatric, therapeutic, or legal advice.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to use the Service. By using the Service, you represent that you meet this age requirement. If you are between 16 and 18 (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction), you represent that a parent or guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf.

3. Account registration and security

You may register using an email address and password or via a supported OAuth provider (e.g., Google). You are responsible for:

Keeping your password and account credentials confidential
All activity that occurs under your account
Notifying us immediately if you suspect unauthorised access

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts where we detect suspicious activity, repeated policy violations, or abuse of the Service.

4. Free and Pro subscription plans

Free plan

The Free plan provides limited access to the Service at no charge, including a daily wisdom card, limited AI conversations per month, and basic journalling. Features are subject to change.

Pro plan

The Pro plan provides unlimited access to all features, billed monthly or annually. Prices are displayed in USD and shown in approximate local currency for your convenience; you are charged in USD via Stripe. Prices are subject to change with 30 days’ notice to existing subscribers.

Billing and renewals

Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period
You may cancel anytime from your Account Settings or Stripe customer portal
Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you retain Pro access until then
Annual subscribers who cancel within 14 days of their initial purchase are entitled to a full refund; otherwise we refund the pro-rated unused portion on a case-by-case basis
Monthly subscribers may request a pro-rated refund within 7 days of a renewal

Free trial

Where a free trial is offered, your payment method will be charged automatically at the end of the trial period unless you cancel before the trial ends. We will remind you by email before the trial expires.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms
Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract the source code of the Service
Scrape, crawl, or systematically extract data from the Service without our written permission
Use automated bots or scripts to interact with Solomon or other AI features
Attempt to circumvent subscription paywalls or usage limits
Upload or transmit malicious code, malware, or harmful content
Impersonate another person or entity
Harass, abuse, or harm other users or our team
Use the Service to train machine learning models without our prior written consent

Violation of these rules may result in immediate suspension or termination of your account without refund.

6. AI-generated content and limitations

The Solomon AI assistant uses large language models to generate responses. You acknowledge and agree that:

AI-generated responses may be inaccurate, incomplete, or outdated
Solomon does not provide medical, psychiatric, therapeutic, legal, or financial advice
You should not rely on Solomon responses as a substitute for professional advice
If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, please contact a crisis service (e.g., 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline in the US, Crisis Text Line, or your local emergency services)
We do not guarantee the availability, accuracy, or suitability of AI responses for any particular purpose

7. Intellectual property

Our content

The Service, including its software, design, AI system prompts, curated annotations, and branding, is owned by Ancient Source and protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works without our express written consent. Ancient texts and passages in the public domain are not claimed by us.

Your content

You retain ownership of content you create using the Service, including journal entries and saved notes. By submitting content to the Service, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to store, process, and display that content solely to provide the Service to you. We do not claim ownership of your personal content and do not use it to train AI models without your explicit consent.

8. Privacy

Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

9. Third-party services

The Service integrates with third-party services including Supabase (database), Stripe (payments), Anthropic (AI), Vercel (hosting), and Google (OAuth). Your use of these services is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the practices or content of any third-party service.

10. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, ANCIENT SOURCE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE THREE MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR £50 / $50, WHICHEVER IS GREATER.

Some jurisdictions (including the EU and UK) do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties or limitation of liability for certain types of loss, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Ancient Source and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your infringement of any third-party rights.

12. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. For users in the EU, mandatory consumer protection laws of your country of residence also apply and take precedence where they provide greater protection.

You and Ancient Source agree to first attempt to resolve any dispute informally by contacting legal@ancientsource.app. If a dispute cannot be resolved informally within 30 days, either party may bring formal proceedings. EU users may also use the European Commission’s Online Dispute Resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.

13. Termination

You may close your account at any time from Account Settings. We may suspend or terminate your account for breach of these Terms, non-payment, or if required by law. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Sections 7, 10, 11, 12, and 14 survive termination.

14. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. For material changes, we will notify you by email and/or by displaying a prominent notice in the app at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the new Terms. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you must stop using the Service and may close your account.
